Kinship in Action
Many South LA children who lose their parents to addiction, prison or mental illness are taken in by loving grandparents, aunts and uncles or other caring relatives. These children often fare much better than those in the formal foster care system. However, they do not receive the same amount of resources or support that families in the traditional foster care system do. KIA organizes, trains and supports Relative Caregivers to fight for more resources for relative caregivers and to improve family care in South LA.
