    For the first time in California history state-level legislative district lines will be redrawn by an independent Citizens Redistricting Commission.  The Commission has begun their work and this is your opportunity to get involved.

    The University of California, Berkeley, is opening regional redistricting technical assistance centers across the State.  The purpose of these centers is to provide Californians access to data, software, and expertise so that they can effectively communicate valuable information about their communities to the Commission.

    Join the Museum of Slavery to Emancipation who will be presenting its annual Black history program. The program will be held on February 19, 2011 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

    There will be two presentations. The first on the Black Indians in the Americas focusing on the African influence among the indigenous people in Latin America and North America.

    The second presentation will be on the state of mental health of the black male. The program speakers will be Dr. Joseph Marshall, co-founder of the Omega Boys Club in San Francisco, and the President of teh San Francisco Police Comission. Dr. Quinney from Quinny and Associates and Anson Hull will speak on his life experience from the streets to business.

    The even will take place on February 19, 2011 at 8101 S. Vermont Ave., Los Angeles, CA 90044.

    A Family Fighting For Their Rights and Their Lives due to Foreclosure and Unfair, Unlawful and Fraudulent Business Practices …

    Recent T.V. and the News have aired that the unfair, unlawful, and fraudulent business practices of large financial institutions are rampant in today’s economic climate.  Detroit 1-8-7 aired October 5, 2010 and December 14, 2010 an episode named “Unknown Soldier” about a woman who shared my same landlord/tenant experiences, but she did not live to personally tell her story.  At the end of the episode, a video tape of her sharing her testimony is played.  Hulu.com is available, if you choose to view this episode.  The news aired December 23, 2010 about a lady who was awakened by someone breaking into her home, it was the bank.

    The MLK Commemorative Lecture by Reverend James Lawson, Jr.
    VIsiting Scholar at CSUN 2010-11 Academic Year

    A prominent Civil Rights Movement leader, Revered Lawson organized workshops on Gandhian methods of nonviolent direct action, helped coordinate the Freedom Rides of 1961, the Meredith March in 1966, and played a major role in the sanitation workers strike of 1968. On the eve of the assassination, Martin Luther King called Lawson "the leading theorist and strategist of nonviolence in the world." Pastor at Holman Methodist Church for 30 years, and now retired, Lawson continues as a strong voice and important strategist for social justice movements across the U.S.

    You are cordially invited to attend a reception honoring Reverend Lawson following the lecture.
