Where Do We Go From Here: A Brainstorming Solutions Summit
Tuesday, February 21, 2012, 6:30-9pm, moderated by award-winning journalist, TV producer and activist, Ifalade Ta’Shia Asanti, In the Meantime Men unites a panel of six prominent Black LGBT/SGL community leaders with the Los Angeles community to brainstorm on viable solutions to the current challenges facing LGBT/SGL African-Americans living in Los Angeles County and the State of California. This forum is free and open to the general public. Allies are strongly encouraged to attend.
Panel & Dialogue Explores:
–Does the Black LGBT/SGL community still see HIV/AIDS as a threat to the community? If no, why? If yes, why? –Strategic responses to religious extremism and its negative impact on our community, family wellness, economic state and mental health. –The new generation of Black LGBT/SGL youth leaders: what they need, who they are & what we can learn from them. –Our Black LGBT/SGL Elders: Neglected or Valued? Sustained or Forgotten?

About the Moderator:
Ifalade Ta’Shia Asanti’s work as a cultural and spiritual educator, journalist, columnist and fiction writer have been written about in the New York Times, Advocate Magazine, Denver Post and Entertainment Today. Ta’Shia has made appearances on nationally syndicated news and talk shows including Fox News, CBS, NBC, Good Day America and PBS. Ta’Shia has written and published over 1000 articles, essays, poems and short stories in her journalistic career. She has served as editor of Urban Spectrum Newspaper, In the Black Business Journal and Gay Black Female Magazine. Ta’Shia broke ground as the first African-American columnist for the Lesbian News. Ta’Shia is the author of three best-selling books, The Sacred Door: A Spiritual Guide to Power Living and The Seer: Legacy of Stone & Spirit, (Motherland Press) and The Bones Do Talk. Ta’Shia founded and produced the World Pride & Power Conference and produced the ATBLA/Los Angeles Black Pride Conference with over 40 speakers on wellness, media activism, SGLBT relationships and HIV/AIDS. In collaboration with President Clinton’s race relations initiative, Ta’Shia organized a community dialogue uniting 40 non-profit orgs from across Southern California to discuss the impact of racism on America’s social and economic development. Ta’Shia organized the International Ifa Conference which garnered a front page story in the Denver Post. Ta’Shia currently works as a Producer for Your World TV where she is host and producer of The Window, a World View Talk Show. More about Ta’Shia’s work can be found at www.tashiaasanti.com
